As down the glen one Easter morn
在一个复活节的早晨我走下峡谷
To a city fair rode I,

There armed lines of marching men
In squadrons passed me by.

No pipe did hum, no battle drum
风笛沉静，也没有宣战的鼓声
Did sound its loud tattoo
是什么声音在我耳边响起
But the Angelus bells oer the Liffey swells
是那祈祷的钟声飘过菲利河
Rang out in the foggy dew.
钟声穿过浓雾……

Right proudly high in Dublin town
都柏林城镇尊崇正义
Hung they out a flag of war.
他们插上了战争的旗帜
Twas better to die neath an Irish sky
若死也要死在爱尔兰的天空下
Than at Suvla or Sud el Bar.
总好过葬身在苏瓦湾或苏丹、巴倍多
And from the plains of Royal Meath
于是在米斯郡王室的草原上
Strong men came hurrying through;
身强力壮的男人们匆匆穿过
While Brittanias Huns with their long-range guns
英国佬扛着他们的长*坐上船
Sailed in through the foggy dew.
穿过浓雾起程……

The bravest fell, and the requiem bell
勇士倒下，挽钟长鸣
Rang mournfully and clear
钟声悲哀而清脆
For those who died that Easter-tide
为了这些在复活节死去的人们
In the springing of the year.
While the world did gaze with deep amaze
在这年的春天，世界深深震惊
At those fearless men but few
Who bore the fight that freedoms light
因这些无畏的为了战争而生的人们，虽然我们输了战争
Might shine through the foggy dew.
自由之光却透过浓雾在闪亮……

And back through the glen I rode again
我再次走过峡谷
And my heart with grief was sore
我忧伤的心悲痛万分
For I parted then with valiant men
我已和那些勇敢的人们永远分离
Whom I never shall see more
我再也见不到他们
But to and fro
但是一次又一次
In my dreams I go
我在梦中出发
And I kneel and pray for you
我跪下祈祷
For slavery fled
Oh, glorious dead
为了争取自由的人们
When you fell in the foggy dew
当你们倒在这浓雾中……
